Traveling for work can be exhausting. In my years as a traveling medical sales rep, I have come to learn a thing or two about life on the road when traveling for business. I have spent countless hours looking for a place to eat, cheap gas, and sometimes even a place to crash for the night. Some of the biggest challenges while traveling are keeping yourself productive, trying not to ruin your health and fitness routine, and keeping yourself safe.
Take a look at these 5 life changing apps for the road warrior woman:
Of all of the map apps out there Waze truly has it figured out. Waze is the world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app. Other members of the app can share what’s happening on the road. Whether it’s bad weather, police, heavy traffic, collisions and more. Waze also does not allow usage of the app while the car is in motion to keep you safe while driving. You can also connect with friends or colleagues on the app to plan travel together.
How many times have you driven around aimlessly searching for a Dunkin’ Donuts only to find that your Maps app has driven you to someone’s driveway? I don’t know about you, but I’ve lost count. Check out the AroundMe app. Around Me’s concept is very simple…it lets you know what’s around you! Not only restaurants and coffee shops, but other important places that can be hard to find in a strange town, such as the nearest hospitals and Banks/ATM machines. Also, for those with frequent overnight trips in different cities, the app can even show you fun local pubs, theaters and concerts in town.
Working out while traveling is hard. Hotel gyms leave much to be desired and if you belong to a local gym your travel city may not have a facility there. Yoga Studio is an app designed for Yogo…or Yoga on the Go. The app comes complete with pre-designed classes from beginner to advanced. The courses range from a quick 15 minute yoga for morning or night, to advanced 60 minute classes designed to make you sweat. There is even a meditation and relaxation option for those tough days on the road. For more creativity, the app also allows you to design your very own Yoga sequence. Namaste!
This app is especially helpful for the Independent Reps out there. As an Independent Contractor, you may or may not be reimbursed for any expenses. Yes you can write them off at the end of the year, but to keep your costs down while traveling invest in a Gas App. I recommend Gas Buddy. Gas Buddy helps you find the cheapest gas in the area. Also, as a female who often travels alone, Gas Buddy will show Gas Station reviews so you can ensure you feel safe when stopping to fuel up.
Sometimes you just can’t make it all the way home. The meeting went long, traffic was bad, your eyes are heavy and you need to sleep. Hotel Tonight is an app that can offer great prices on hotels near you. Hotels often have unsold rooms for the night so they are able to offer them at significantly discounted rates. The app allows you to book directly on the app and even has a perks program for even better discounts.
Be Productive, Be Healthy, Be Safe
The life of a traveling woman is not an easy one, but utilizing these 5 apps can help you be more productive. Saving time searching for a cheap gas station or hotel, even a cup of coffee helps you get to your destination faster in turn giving you more time to focus on your mission: growing your business. Being Healthy while traveling is not always easy, check out my blog on Healthy Choices for Women on the Road. Most importantly, traveling alone can present dangers. Stay safe ladies, utilize these apps to keep yourself safe on the road.
